Forpost unmanned aerial vehicles produced by the Civil Aircraft-Manufacturing Enterprise underwent the first trials at the Staratel training range near Nizhny Tagil in the Urals in January 2012.

The system with Forpost medium-range unmanned aerial vehicles is designed to conduct air reconnaissance of the enemy’s facilities and provide friendly weapon systems with target designation data.

The system comprises three unmanned aerial vehicles. Thus, the Russian Defense Ministry will receive 90 Forpost UAVs in the next five-ten years.

It was reported earlier that space reconnaissance had registered the presence of a Forpost medium-class reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle at Russia’s Khmeimim airbase in Syria.

Unmanned aerial vehicles of this type are performing reconnaissance flights over Syria to obtain specified data on targets of the Islamic State terrorist organization and other armed groupings.

As of today, the Forpost unmanned aerial vehicle is the sole medium-class UAV in service with Russia’s Armed Forces.

The Forpost unmanned aerial vehicle is produced by the Civil Aircraft-Manufacturing Enterprise under the license from Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd.

The Russian enterprise has produced the Forpost unmanned aerial vehicle since 2012. The Forpost unmanned aerial vehicle has a cruising speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) and endurance of 18 hours.
