"A division with its headquarters in Yelnya is currently being set up. It remains unclear whether it will be part of the 1st Guards Tank Army or the 20th All-Arms Army," Rudskoi said at the 5th International Security Conference in Moscow.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in January that three new divisions were planned to be set up in the western strategic direction.

It was reported later that a new motor rifle division would be set up near Rostov-on-Don in south Russia before the yearend.

A source in Russia’s General Staff told TASS that the division would be designated as the 150th Idritsa-Berlin division whose soldiers had raised the Victory Banner over the Reichstag on April 30, 1945.

Another source in the Russian General Staff told TASS that another two motor rifle divisions would be set up in the Smolensk Region and the Voronezh Region in central Russia before the yearend. It was also reported that all the three new divisions would comprise about 10,000 servicemen each.
