"The agreement has been fulfilled. In future, the sides will focus on joint air defense combat duty missions and joint operational and combat training exercises," he said.

According to Kurachenko, the agreement between Russia and Belarus on the joint air defense of the external borders of the Russia-Belarus Union State and on the creation of the single regional air defense system was signed and ratified in 2009.

Belarusian Air and Air Defense Force Commander Major-General Oleg Dvigalev has been appointed as commander of the single regional air defense system.

The Russian and Belarusian defense ministers approved the list of military governance bodies, control centers, units and formations that will make part of the single regional air defense system and the instruction on the organization and the procedure of air defense within the single regional system.

As Kurachenko said, there are plans to set up single regional air defense systems with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

"Draft agreements have been worked out and are currently at the stage of approval to set up the single regional air defense systems between Russia and Kyrgyzstan and Russia and Tajikistan," he said.

Speaking about the establishment of the Central Asian collective security region, Kurachenko said that a similar agreement had been signed between Russia and Kazakhstan in 2013.

According to him, work is currently under way to agree on the list of military governance bodies, control centers, units and formations that will make part of the single regional air defense system.
