The official did not elaborate on the nationalities of the foreign troops, but said they may participate in the fighting with Hadi's forces against the Houthis to regain full control over Aden.

It was not immediately possible to verify the nationality of the troops, but a Saudi-led coalition which has been trying to stem advances by the Iran-allied Houthis says it is in control of the waters around Aden.

The Houthis, who took control of the capital Sanaa six months ago in alliance with supporters of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, have weathered eight days of air strikes by a Saudi-led regional coalition which aims to return Hadi to power.

Security sharply deteriorated in Yemen since early March when conflict erupted in several provinces in the country's southern regions.

The Shiite Houthi group launched attacks on Aden city, which President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi declared as the temporary capital after he fled weeks of house arrest by the Houthis in Sanaa.
Houthi rebels and their allies in Yemen have stormed the presidential palace in Aden following heavy clashes, officials say.
