"We will deliver the vehicle Yars-M to the Russian Defense Ministry for the end of 2013. The missile will be delivered to the army for the same year," the official said.

According to retired General Victor Essine, former Chief of General Staff of the Russian Strategic Missile Troops, the modernized missile Yars-M has a better control system than its predecessor.

Two divisions of Russian nuclear forces are already equipped with fifth generation missile systems RS-24 Yars and Topol-M. Three other divisions will be equipped with these missiles in 2013, said the General Sergei Karakaïev, commander of Russian Strategic Missile Troops.

The Yars RS-24 Is a Russian-made mobile nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile which can be mounted on truck carrier or deployed in silos. The missile RS-24 is a three-stage, solid propellant, MIRV-capable (Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles) ICBM (InterContinental Ballistic Missile) with a range of 10,500 km.
