United States launches today the first drone strike in Libya against Kaddafi Forces in Misrata.

The United States has launched today its first Predator drone strike on Libya. NATO military forces destroyed a Qadhafi regime Multiple Rocket Launcher BM- 21 (MRLS) in the vicinity of Misrata at approximately 1100 GMT.

The strike was carried out by a Predator Unmanned Aerial Surveillance (UAS) weapons system provided to support Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR. The MRL system has been used against civilians in Misrata.

Libyan troops capturedby rebels in Misrata said on Saturday the army had been ordered to retreat from the besieged port, marking a possible shift in a two-month revolt against leader Muammar Gaddafi.

According to the rebels, the troops say they have been ordered to pullout of the city. Libya’s government says NATO air strikes might force its army to stop retaking the country’s third largest city, but local tribes are ready to take over the battle.

The fierce fighting for control of Misrata is proving to be the main battleground as rebels and forces loyal to Gaddafi engage in urban warfare.
