At Zhuhai AirShow 2014, the 10th Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition in China, Chinese Defense Company Poly Technology has presented a new type of MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) category 4x4 vehicle, under the name of 12P. This vehicle is a high-maneuverability mine resistant armoured vehicle mainly designed to be used as personnel carrier. | |||

The layout of the vehicle is very similar to the South African made RG-31 designed and manufactured by BAE Systems. The 12P has a total weight of 15 tons and carry a total of 12 soldiers including driver and commander. The engine compartment is at the front. The vehicle can reach a maximum speed of 115 km/h. The personnel compartment is at the rear and entry to this is via a large pneumatically assisted rear entry door of fabricated steel armour plate. Large windows made of laminated plate glass are provided in the side and rear parts of the hull, fitted with gun ports. | |||
The AP12 4x4 MRAP is fitted with a remotely weapon station armed with one 12.7 mm machine gun and one 35mm automatic grenade launcher. | |||
Several storage compartments are located in the vehicle's exterior body section to facilitate the storage and carrying of various types of logistical equipment and ammunition. An air conditioning system is fitted and standard equipment includes ABS, communication equipment, mine blast seats and NBC protection system. A wire-cage armour was mounted on the rear side part of the hull, maybe to shows an option to increase the protection of the vehicle against anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attacks. | |||
