BAE Systems launched the latest 6x6 addition to the battle-proven RG range at the Defence Systems & Equipment International DSEI 2009, the RG35 Mine Protected multi-purpose fighting vehicle. RG35 incorporates the best of 30 years experience in mobility, protection and sustainability, while meeting current challenges and threats. It meets modern warfare protection requirements, but also offers tactical on- and off-road mobility. RG35 combines the high levels of survivability of the RG31 mine protected vehicle (MPV) with elements of the tactical capability and characteristics of a modern combat vehicle. The RG35 family offers the military a solution to cover a wide range of contingencies in theatre than ever before, because it offers modern warfare protection requirements as well as tactical on and off-road mobility. RG35 fals into the Fighting Vehicle category and can carrylight and medium turrets. The new RG35 family of vehicle is designed to offer a large volume under-armor, up to 15 cubic meters in total, enough to accommodate 16 soldiers (15+driver) and 15 tons of payload. The new family comprises a range of 4x4 and 6x6 tactical armored vehicle configurations, designed for different applications, including troop carriers, equipped with overhead remotely controlled or manned turrets, a command vehicle and various combat support vehicles. These include 120 mortar or 105mm gun carriers, sappers vehicles and recovery vehicles, as well as a highly mobile armored ambulance. The vehicle is designed for a gross vehicle weight of 33 tons, and comes at a curb-weight of 18 tons. |

Armament | The versatile RG35 can carry light and medium turrets and direct and indirect-fire weapons. The basic version of the RG35 can be fitted with a remote controlled weapon station armed with weapons up to 20 mm in calibre. | Design & Protection | RG35 combines the high levels of survivability of the RG31 Mine Protected Vehicle with much of the tactical capability of a modern combat vehicle. RG35 is a 6x6 mine protected multi-purpose fighting vehicle 7.4 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width and 2,7 meters in height with a ground clearance of 458 millimeters. The RG35 gross vehicle mass is 33,000kg with a payload of 14,870kg and 15sqm volume under armour. The RG35 has a turning circle of 15m and seats driver plus 15 crew members.The armor of the RG35 give an high level protection STANAG 4569 Level 4, with a V-shaped hull design, and armoured glass windows. | Mobility | The RG35 present at DSEI 2009 was a 6X6 chassis, motorized with a Cummin engine with a power of 410kW at 550 hp. The engine is coupled to a ZF 6HP transmission with 6 automatic speed. The 6x6 RG35 is driven like a tactical vehicle, rather than a heavy truck. Reaching a maximum road speed of 115 km/h, it can also turn on a 15meter radius. The vehicle also has good off-road mobility, with 0.458 meter ground clearance. The 1.42 wheel-base common to all versions with angle of approach and departure of 45 degrees,the RG35 can traverse a gradient of 60%.
