The
strategic defense of Montenegro is the defence of
its independence, sovereignty and state territory,
from all kinds of conventional and asymmetric threats,
especially from the threat of terrorism. The President
of Montenegro presides over the National Security
Council (NSC), commands the Army based on the decision
of the NSC, and performs other duties stipulated by
the Constitution and the Law. The Armed Forces of
Montenegro are around 2,350 military personnel. There
is no conscription.
The Land Forces of Montenegro are around 1,025 soldiers
with the structure:
- 1 light infantry brigade with 1 Command and control
company, 1 infantry battalion,
1 mountain battalion, 1 artillery battalion, 1 engineer
company
- 1 Special Forces brigade, 2 military police company
