The vehicle is intended for fire extinction and crash-rescue operations in extremely dangerous environments. The SPM is used for civilian purposes only.

"There are no analogues of the SPM in the world. The vehicle features an armoured cabin that protects the crew during works in explosion-hazard areas, for instance, burning munition depots. It has a water/extinguishant supply of 25 cu.m; no other firefighting vehicle can carry such a volume [of fire extinguishing agents]," the Designer General for pilot projects of special and civil hardware of the Omsktransmash plant Boris Yeremenko said.

The press department pointed out that the vehicle`s weight does not exceed 60 t, and it has an effective range of extinguishant stream of 100 m. The SPM was brought into service with Russia`s Armed Forces in 2015. Its serial manufacturing was launched last year.

According to the official catalogue of the Omsktransmash plant, the SPM tracked special fire-fighting vehicle is intended for fire extinguishing and crash-rescue missions in ammunition and explosive storages, clearance of routes to fire seats ad paving of firebreak strips during forest fires. The catalogue says that the SPM is based on a tracked chassis that incorporates components of the T-72 and T-80 tanks. It has a three-strong crew. The crew compartment provides protection against splinters of a 152 mm high-explosive fragmentation (HE-Frag) round at a distance of 5 m.

The SPM has a full weight of no more than 60 t. It carries an amount of 25 m3 of water and fire extinguishing agents. The vehicle has an effective stream range of no less than 100 m and a delivery volume of 100 l per second. According to the official portfolio of the Omsktransmash plant, the SPM has received a sprinkler system that reduces the temperature of the chassis and crew and engine compartments. The vehicle has a maximum road speed of 40 km/h (full weight) and a road cruising range of no less than 250 km. As mentioned earlier, the SPM is fitted with an armoured cabin that has a capacity of three servicemen.
