Technical Review EDGE ADASI Garmoosha UAE-made unmanned helicopter VTOL drone

ADASI, a producer of military autonomous systems based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a subdivision of EDGE, an advanced defense technology group that develop, design and manufacture a wide range of military defense and security products in the field of land, Air and Navy, has developed the Garmoosha or Garmousha, the next-generation of first UAE-made light unmanned VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft system (UAS) helicopter design.

The Garmoosha VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) drone is designed to conduct intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. It has state-of-the-art unmanned systems that can perform a diverse range of missions to meet defense and security force requirements.

The Garmoosha is a tactical-grade UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) that can be deployed in all weather conditions, both day and night, and at altitudes ranging from sea level to 10,000 ft. It features system capabilities that make it ideal for ISR (Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance), and battlefield intelligence and assessment missions. The aircraft’s payload capacity and performance specifications give it wide functionality, making it an ideal platform for maritime surveillance, monitoring, and search and rescue, (SAR) Electronic warfare missions, and radio link range extension and retransmission.

Each Garmoosha UAS tactical set includes two Garmoosha aircraft, a ground control station (GCS) shelter, and an efficient transportation shelter. The ground control station provides all equipment required to command and control the UAS and operate the payloads. Each aircraft requires a pilot in command, a pilot, a payload operator, and two technicians.

The ground control and transportation shelters are equipped with a center console, laptop consoles, an extension/retraction mast, and an antenna tracking system that permits the observation operators to fully command and control the UAS and operate the payloads.

The two shelters, which provide storage and transportation for the two UAS aircraft, are designed for transport on C-130 aircraft and can be loaded without the need of a transport truck. The shelter is powered by a generator integrated into the shelter structure. During transport, the shelter holds one aircraft and all ground control equipment boxes.

The Garmoosha Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) is fitted with a two-bladed rotor. It is based on helicopter design and has automatic vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability and can perform operations in all weather conditions. The drone is powered by a low-consumption diesel engine, combined with unmanned navigation and concurrent sensor capabilities.

The Garmoosha is able to carry payloads of approximately 100 kg including a stabilized electro-optical sensor for day and night ISR collection, with an endurance of six hours and a range of 150 km. It can fly a maximum speed of 150 km/h and has a maximum takeoff weight of 500 kg with a length of 6 m, a width of 1.6 m, and a height of 2.8 m.
