Russian air defense system Pantsir-S Sa-22 Greyhound will use new KAMAZ-53958 truck chassis.
Upgraded Pantsir-S (NATO reporting name: SA-22 Greyhound) self-propelled anti-air gun-missile (SPAAGM) system may receive new KAMAZ-53958 (6560M) chassis, according to a Russian defense industry source. The Pantsir-S is a Russian-made air defense missile-gun system armed with twelve 57E6 surface-to-air guided missiles and two 2A38M30-millimetre automatic guns.

"The KAMAZ company has developed new 8x8 wheeled KAMAZ-53958 (6560M) 'Tornado' platform. It may be exploited as a new chassis for Pantsyr-SM (upgraded Pantsyr-S SPAAGM)", the source said.

The KAMAZ-53958 platform has a capacity of 25 t. The vehicles`s cabin is unified with 'Taifin-K' (Typhoon-K) heavy mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicle. It is armoured at the Russian GOST 6a level (STANAG 4569 Level 3). The cabin protects from B-32 7,62x54mm armour-piercing bullet fired from Dragunov SVD sniper rifle at 25 m distance.

KAMAZ-53958 has been demonstrated for the first time at the Interpolitex-2015 exhibition. The prototype was equipped with KAMAZ V8 (400 h.p.) engine, a licensed copy of Liebherr V8. Gearbox was provided by the US Allison company. The vehicle has received Japanese Ampex air conditioning unit. The double-reduction drive axles were provided by Bulgarian Madara company. The illumination was supplied by Italian Cobo company. "Nevertheless, all foreign components are going to be replaced by Russian ones", the source said.

He pointed out, that KAMAZ-53958 platforms would be assembled at the Remdiesel facility (a subsidiary of KAMAZ).
