Joint Stock Company Tractor Plants to develop new IFV chassis based on the Dragun
Russian joint stock company (JSC) Tractor Plants is developing new unified infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) chassis, according to a Russian defense industry source. "In 2015, the Tractor Plants company has revealed new BMP-3 IFV variant designated as Dragun (Dragoon). The perspective chassis is planned to be based on the Dragun vehicle. It will slightly resemble BMP-3, while having absolutely different internal layout," the source said.

The concept of the perspective chassis was demonstrated for the first time at the RAE 2015 defense show. It had a combat weight of 15.5 t, a length of 6,715 mm, a width of 3,400 mm, a height of 2,570 mm (including turret) and a crew of three servicemen. The chassis could transport up to eight mounted soldiers. It was equipped with UTD-32 diesel engine (816 h.p.), which allowed to reach a road speed of 60 km/h and a swimming speed of 10 km/h and to provide 52.65 h.p./t power-to-weight ratio. The chassis has a one-filling fuel capacity of 600 km (or seven hours afloat).

Tractor Plants concern offers three type of combat modules to be installed on the new chassis, Basic unmanned turret comprises 100mm 2A70 gun-launcher and coaxial 30mm 2A72 automatic gun and 7.62mm PKT/PKTM machinegun as the main weapons. The module is deisgnated as BM 100+30. It has an ammunition load of 22 100mm rounds (including three 9M117 Bastion (AT-12 Swinger) anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM) and 19 high-explosive rounds), 500 30mm rounds (including 305 armour-piercing and 195 high-explosive ones) and 2,000 7.62mm cartridges.

The second option is BM 57 remote controlled weapon station (RCWS), which is a variant of AU-220M Baikal RCWS developed by Burevestnik Scientific-Research Institute (a subsidiary of UralVagonZavon (UVZ) scientific-research corporation). BM 57 is armed with 57 mm cannon and coaxial 7.62 mm PKT/PKTM machinegun. The cannon can fire armour-piercing fin stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds. The gun has an ammunition load of 80 57mm rounds and 1000 7.62mm cartridges.

The unmanned variant of 2A25 Sprut-SD self-propelled anti-tank gun`s (SPATG) organic combat module can also be installed on the new chassis. It is designated as BM 125. The module is armed with 125mm 2A75 tank gun and coaxial 7.62mm PKT/PKTM machinegun. It has an ammunition load of 22 125 mm rounds (including APFSDS, shaped-charge and high-explosive rounds and ATGMs) and 2,000 7.62mm cartridges.

According to Russian military analysts polled by TASS, the introduction of the aforementioned unmanned combat modules will significantly increase the combat effectiveness of the perspective Russian IFV.
