Russian National Guard special units and some other special services have received the Bur small rocket launcher developed by the Instrument-Making Design Bureau in Tula in central Russia, design bureau spokesman Vasily Zamarakhin told Rambler News Service.

"The first batches of Bur rocket launchers have arrived for Russian special services, including the National Guard and the Federal Security Service," Zamarakhin said.

According to the spokesman, the weapon is the lightest rocket launcher in the world as it weighs only 3.5 kilograms. It is virtually on a par with heavier Russian- and foreign-made analogs in terms of effectiveness and firing range.

The Bur rocket launcher’s firing range is 950 meters and similar to that of the Shmel rocket launcher, which equals 1,000 meters, but its sighting range is longer. "This can be explained by the optical and thermal imaging sights used in it," the spokesman said. The Bur rocket launcher’s strength is that it can be fired from small rooms.

The Instrument-Making Design Bureau is a subsidiary of Russia’s High-Precision Systems Group.

"Other rocket launchers cannot be fired from small buildings as such buildings can disintegrate, killing the gunner," Zamarakhin said.
