Army Recognition editorial team flying test Chinese Hunting Eagle military gyrocopter in China.
Army Recognition chief editor has the chance to make a flying in test in China with the Chinese Hunting Eagle military Gyrocopter from the Defence Company Shaanxi Baoji Special Vehicles. A gyrocopter is a type of rotorcraft which uses an unpowered rotor in autorotation to develop lift, and an engine-powered propeller, similar to that of a fixed-wing aircraft, to provide thrust.

The gyrocopter Hunting Eagle is ideally suited to aerial observation roles, photographic sorties, or in daily service for pilot training. The Hunting Eagle has seats for two persons.

The Hunting Eagle is also used by Government agencies in the world for traffic observation duties, search and rescue coordination.

The gyrocopter Hunting Eagle can also be used for military and security application as border control, anti-riot, aerial reconnaissance missions and Special Forces Operations for deploying soldiers behind the enemy lines.

Today and in the very near future there seem to be many new technologies and older technologies that when merged are being seriously looked at for potential military applications of gyroplanes in combat or combat support roles.

There are so many advantages in flying a gyro over conventional aircraft - gyros don't stall or tailspin, they can fly at very low speeds, have genuine STOL performance, are easy to transport and set up quickly, require minimal storage space, cost around 10% of the purchase and operating costs of a helicopter and most importantly there is little or no effect from strong winds and turbulence leaving the pilot comfortable and safe.
