General
information |
The
RG Outrider is wheeled armoured utility vehicle
designed and manufactured by BAE Systems. The RG
Outrider is able to fulfill most roles demanding
high levels of payload or capacity together with
demanding crew survivability. The RG Outrider has
a gross vehicle mass (GVMR) of only 9.5 tons, classifying
it as a light mine protected patrol vehicle. The
configuration offers more internal crew space, due
to 200 mm (8 in) wider hull and 50 mm (2 in) increased
head space. With its high commercial off the shelf
(COTS) content the RG Outrider provides a cost effective
through-life solution with a minimal logistics footprint
and the ability to be re-configured with customer
required mission equipment. BAE Systems demonstrated
the vehicle on Feb. 10 during the Nevada Automotive
Test Center (NATC) Vehicle Systems Demonstration
Technology Rodeo in Carson City, Nevada. The vehicle
will be on display for the firtst time to the public
at the Association of U.S. Army’s Winter Symposium
in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Feb. 24-26, 2010.

Armament |
The
RG Outrider BAE Systems can be fitted with
a one man turret, armed with a 7,62 mm or
12,7 mm machine gun. |
Protection |
The
RG Outrider BAE Systems has a V-shaped hull
that protects the crew against armor piercing
(AP) rifle fire and anti-tank mine detonations.
Although the vehicle is a fully fledged
light armored vehicle it sacrifices none
of the mobility, agility and ground clearance
of its predecessor. Windows are externally
mounted providing improved side-blast protection
while also freeing up space inside the cabin.
The RG Outrider BAE Systems provides a protection
against IED, a mine protection under wheels
STANAG Level 2A and STANAG Level 2B under
center. The hull of the RG Outrider provides
also a protection against small arms firing
7,62 x 39 mm AP (STANAG 4569A Level 2).
|
Propulsion |
The
RG Outrider BAE Systems is powered by a
Steyr M16SCI Turbo charged intercooled engine
coupled to an automatic Allison S1000 transmission
with 5 speed. The RG Outrider uses a 4 x
4 chassis. RG Outrider BAE Systems employs
the same proven mobility, agility and ground
clearance as its predecessor, the RG32M,
which is currently in service in Afghanistan.
