The
RG31 Mk5E is an increase version in power and payload
of the basic version of the RG31, who is produced
by the Defense Company BAE Systems Land Systems
OMC in collaboration with General Dynamics Land
Systems Canada. In service with forces around the
world, the RG-31 MPV is a highly effective multi-role
armored vehicle capable of a variety of military
applications including, an Armored Personnel Carrier,
Command Vehicle, Ambulance, Armored Utility Vehicle
and Surveillance Vehicle. The RG31 Mk5 and Mk6,
with increased power, mobility and protection for
even more demanding roles,were developed specifically
for modern assymetric warfare and to meet new and
increasing demands.

The
RG31 Mk5E is fitted with a remote controlled
weapon station armed with a 7.62 mm or 12.7
mm machine gun.
Protection
The
RG31 Mk5E is classed as a Category I Mine
Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle.
Developed to counter the IED/mine threat
found in Afghanistan and Iraq, it is blast
protected throughout the vehicle from explosions
of up to 30 pounds of TNT under any wheel
or a 15 pound blast under the belly. The
glass used in all the windows is bullet
resistant and tinted for optimum vision
and protection. It has 7.62 mm ballistic
protection, providing enhanced survivability,
enhanced visibility and larger crew capacity
compared to the M1114 Up Armored HMMWV.
The RG31 Mk5E has a V shaped monocoque welded
steel hull.
Propulsion
The
RG-31 Mk5E uses a 4x4 chassis. The RG31
Mk5E is motorised with 6 cylinders Cummins
QSB 6.7 L/409CI engine coupled to an Allison
2500 SP trnsmission, with 5 forward speed
and one reverse.
Accessories
The
RG31 Mk5E can be airlifted suing C-130-sized
aircraft. Two spare tire assemblies mounted
on either side of the vehicle.
