A
contract on the delivery of advanced S-300 air defense systems to Iran
has been stagnated by technical reasons, the Iranian ambassador to Russia
said on Thursday. Russia signed a contract with Iran on the supply of
at least five S-300 air defense systems in December 2005.
The
Cheetah MMPV (Medium Mine Protected Vehicle) is
built by Force Protection Inc. It is the smallest
of Force Protection's line-up, consisting of the
Buffalo, Cougar and the Cheetah . Its design is
based on the RG-31 Charger class of light-armored
vehicle and is intended as a reconnaissance, forward
command and control, and urban operations vehicle
for homeland security missions. Cheetah, formerly
known as MUV/R is a 4x4 light armored protected
vehicle designed for reconnaissance, forward command
and control, and urban operations.
The
basic Cheetah Force Protection MMPV can
be equipped with one 7.62 mm or 12,7 mm
machine gun.
Protection
The
vehicle uses monocoque V shaped hull, external
lightweight armor, internal spall liners
and blast mitigation materials are used
to protect the crew and vehicle from explosion
of heavy mines under the vehicle or wheels
(7.5 – 15 kg of TNT explosives). It
also protects against roadside improvised
explosive devices (RSIED). The basic vehicle
is bulletproof against 7.62/51 cal. Gunfire.
The armor is upgradable to protect against
larger caliber, including 0.50 Cal AP. Cheetah
has a curb weight, (with basic armor) of
14,000 pounds, allowing for 10,000 pounds
of payload.
Propulsion
The
Cheetah is powered by a Engine Cummins ISB
series, 220 KW (300 HP) (ISB) or(275HP)
(QSB). The engine is coupled to Marmon-Herrington
2 Speed with 4X4 or optional ADM transfer
case. The wheels are Marmon-Herrington 2
Speed with 4X4 or optional ADM, with Michelin
XZL run flat tires 365/80R20 .
Accessories
Its
weight and dimensions allow for two vehicles
to be air-transported inside a single C-130
Hercules. The vehicle is equipped with a
Cummins ISB series 300 HP engine running
at 2800 rpm, accelerating the vehicle to
50 Mph in 13.5 seconds. At cruising speed
of 65 Mph the vehicle can travel for 700
miles without refueling.

However, there have been no official reports on the start of the contract's implementation. "Iran is ready to receive these systems and our Russian colleagues have assured us that they will meet their obligations," Seyyed Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi said at a news conference at RIA Novosti in Moscow. "Several technical issues [in the contract's implementation] have emerged, and we hope they will be resolved soon," the diplomat said without specifying the problems. Many experts believe Moscow has refused so far to honor the S-300 contract due to pressure from WaToufan-5shington and Tel Aviv. Both the United States and Israel have not ruled out military action if diplomacy fails to resolve the dispute over Iran's nuclear program and have expressed concern over S-300 deliveries, which would significantly strengthen Iran's air defenses.
