Description
The Husky is a protected highly mobile tactical support vehicle, based on the International MXT-MVA made by Navistar Defence ; will carry out the support roles in areas where heavy vehicles, like Mastiff, cannot be used. HUSKY will come as three variants; utility, ambulance and command post. Designed to navigate Afghanistan’s rough terrain and perform in off-road conditions, Navistar’s M-ATV unit utilizes a specially-designed, light-weight armor, which is incorporated into the survivability system. While the platform of the company’s M-ATV vehicle varies from its MaxxPro MRAP, which is based on the International® WorkStar® platform, the smaller base allows Navistar’s unit to weigh significantly less than its MaxxPro Dash - the lightest of the company’s MRAP units and in service now in Afghanistan. Husky is the medium platform in the Tactical Support Vehicle program announced in 2008. It will join its sister heavy and light vehicles, Wolfhound and Coyote, to accompany our existing patrols in Afghanistan, carrying essential supplies such as food, water and ammunition. Husky is a high mobility 4x4 protected vehicle, designed to fill the gap where heavier vehicles are limited by mobility and lighter platforms are limited by payload. In addition to the flatbed-equipped Utility variant, Command and Ambulance versions with enclosed rear cabs are being procured. The Utility variant is due ton enter service in 2009 for the British Army. Additional Utility vehicles, along with the Command and Ambulance variants, will follow in 2010.
Variants :
