Ukrainian army recuperates abandonned Russian MTLB-mounted Borisoglebsk-2 jamming system

Ukrainian Weapons Tracker tweeted on September 13 a picture of a Russian Borisoglebsk-2 jamming system mounted on an MT-LB captured in an apparently intact condition, which is a very valuable asset. No doubt this system will not be used by the Ukrainians but more or less discreetly recuperated by “relevant U.S. services”…

In service since 2014, the Borisoglebsk-2 is an MT-LB-mounted tactical SIGINT, direction-finding, and multifunctional jamming system that can monitor, geolocate, and jam the wider frequency spectrum. It can suppress mobile satellite communications as well as satellite-based navigation signals. The Borisoglebsk-2 merges four types of jamming stations into a single system with a single control console. Its prime contractor is Joint Stock Company Concern Sozvezdie, United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC).

More in detail

The Borisoglebsk-2 is a multipurpose jamming complex designed for SIGINT and the suppression of HF/VHF/UHF frequencies of ground and airborne radio communication, satellite communication, and radio navigation systems and subscriber cellular and trunk communication lines operating in tactical C2 elements. It can track and jam both fixed-frequency and frequency-hopping signals.

The Borisoglebsk-2 system consists of a control post and four EW systems mounted on nine MT-LBuarmoured tracked vehicles. The composition of Borisoglebsk-2 is:
• R-330KMV Command-and-Control Station (Qty 1)
• R-325UMV Jamming Station (Qty 2) only one on URAL truck
• R-378BMV Jamming Station (Qty 2)
• R-330BMV Jamming Station (Qty 2)
• R-934BMV Jamming Station (Qty 2)

The features and capabilities of Borisoglebsk-2 are:
• Automatic distribution of frequencies to be jammed
• Automatic analysis and selection of emitters' signal parameters

Development

The Borisoglebsk-2 multi-functional jamming complex is the improved version of the legacy EW system “MANDAT”. It is developed by the Joint Stock Company Concern Sozvezdie, a subsidiary of the United Instruments Manufacturing Corporation. The developmental timeline of Borisoglebsk-2 is as follows:
2004: Development started.
2010: Evaluation testing completed in December.
2014: Entered service with the Russian Army.
2016: Borisoglebsk-2 upgrade started.
