Opening of SITDEF 2017 Exhibition of Technology in Defense and Prevention of Natural Disasters
Today opening of the International Exhibition of Technology in Defense and Prevention of Natural Disasters which takes place in Lima Peru from the 18 to 21 may 2017. Held every two years since 2007, this event brings together domestic and foreign companies engaged in providing services, manufacturing, and marketing of defense and disaster prevention equipment using state-of-the-art technology.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Peruvian Minister of Defense and all the Chief of Staff of Land, Air, Naval and Security forces, and also by international military delegations from countries of South America

The main tasks of the Peruvian Armed Forces are to protect the independence, sovereignty and integrity of national territory, but also includes assistance in safeguarding internal security, conducting disaster relief operations and participating in international peacekeeping operations.

For this reason, SITDEF 2017 is a very important opportunities for national and international companies to showcases security equipment which can be used In case of flood or earthquake.

Peru has been particularly hard-hit with incessant, heavy rains since January 2017. More than 115,000 homes were demolished, leaving approximately 178,000 people homeless. A total of 113 people were killed, 354 were injured, and a further 18 were missing

The country’s infrastructure took a big hit: 260 bridges collapsed and nearly 3,000km of roads are unusable, cutting off hundreds of villages and towns.

The Peruvian Defense Minister said, with the increase of natural disasters situations in Peru, the Armed forces of our country must be able to play an important role and to response quickly in crisis situations.

Peruvian armed must be equipped with modern military equipment not only to protect the country but also to help the population in case of flood or earthquake which are permanent hazards in the region.
