One of the most interesting product presented by the Spanish Company Instalaza at SITDEF 2017, is the Defensive/Offensive grenade Alhambra, in a few seconds the fragmentation body of the offensive grenade can be removed to have a defensive grenade.

The main advantage of the Alhambra grenade is the use of a mechano-electronic delay fuze. The grenade does not use any batteries. The electric energy is exclusively generated after throwing. This hand grenade is maintenance free. This, together with its detonator out of line, makes the ALHAMBRA the safest hand grenade of the market during transport, storage and use.

In Defensive configuration, the fragmentation body contains more than 3,500 steel balls arranged to ensure a uniform fragment distribution, and its main explosive charge consists of 115 g of high explosive. This configuration achieves a lethal radius of 10 m and a safety radius of 20 m.

The fuze has a functioning delay of 4 s. Furthermore, it has a thro wmg safety delay of 3.5 s, both values being accurately and consistently kept within its entire temperature range. Optionally, due to its electronic operation, these delay times could be tailored to the specific customer needs.

The grenade is watertight, and its shelf-life well exceeds 10 years. The fuze itself is also watertight.

Its revolutionary safety features, outstanding performance and innovative operation systems make the Alhambra hand grenade the most suitable ammunition for the combatant of the XXI century.
