ShieldAfrica 2021: BMK from Russia unveils its Strela 4x4 light amphibious armored vehicle


The Russian company Military-Industrial Company LLC (BMK) unveils its new 4x4 light amphibious armored vehicle Strela at ShieldAfrica 2021, the International Security and Defense Exhibition that takes place in Abidjan Côte d'Ivoire.

The LLC Military Industrial Company is a Russian manufacturer of armored military vehicles, including armored personnel carriers. It was established in 2006 and is based in Moscow.

The Strela is a 4x4 armored vehicle fully developed by the Russian company LLC Military-Industrial Company. It is designed to be used as APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) and can accommodate up to four military personnel including driver and commander.

The design of the vehicle consists of three main parts with the engine at the front, the crew in the middle, and the troop's compartment at the rear. The front of the vehicle is fitted with one single door on each side. One additional door is located at the rear of the hull.

The hull of the Strela provides protection against the firing of small arms and a blast of mine explosion of up to 2 kg of TNT. The vehicle has a Gross Weight of 4,900 kg with a maximum payload of 800 kg.

The Strela can be motorized with a YaMZ or a Cummins ISF 2.8 Diesel engine developing 200 hp. coupled to a five-speed manual transmission or to a six sped automatic transmission. The vehicle can reach a maximum road speed of 120 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 1,000 km.

The Strela is fully amphibious and is propelled in the water at a maximum speed of 7 km/h thanks to a single propeller mounted under the hull rear.
