"We must completely re-equip our army and our navy force in 5 to 10 years," said Putin, whose candidacy for the presidency next Saturday had been proposed by the outgoing President Dmitry Medvedev in Russian pre-election congress of the party.

The re-equipment of the army "is an important instrument of the modernization of the defense industry and the entire Russian economy," Putin said.
