In October 2011, the Russian Defence industry unveils a new light tactical vehicle, the Skorpion-2M. A video of the vehicle was show on the press agency website RIA Novosti. This RIA Novosti video footage shows the capabilities of the Skorpion-2M vehicle which may replace the famous UAZ off-roader. The Skorpion-2M is designed and manufactured by the Russian Defense Company Zashchita. The Skorpion-2M is available in different versions. The Skorpion-2M is a cross between a passenger car and an off-roader. The Skorpion-2M can carry up to 10 people. Plan of development includes several versions of the new combat vehicle as troop carrier, cargo and pick-up model. At this time there is only one prototype vehicle available, but three more vehicles will be soon assembled and tested by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The developer hopes to have also an artic version which could be operate in sub-zero temperature. The basic configuration of the Skorpion-2M can be used in temperature from -50° to 50°. |

Armament |
The Skorpion-2M light tactical vehicle can be armed with a 7.62mm light machine gun mounted on a swivel station and a 12.7mm machine gun mounted on 360° or 3/4 circular station. Based on the mission requirements, the vehicle can carry a range of weapons such as medium and heavy machine guns, rocket-propelled and automatic grenade launchers, and shoulder-launched missile systems in the rear cargo area. The first prototype of the Skorpion-2M was tested with a ring mount system armed with a 7.62 mm machine gun mounted at the rear of the vehicle.

Design |
To increase its protection the Skorpion-2M can be fitted with armor plates. The layout of the Skorpion-2M light tactical vehicle is conventional, with the engine at the front. Driver and passenger sit immediately behind the engine, two passenger seats and a cargo area are at the back.

Propulsion |
The Skorpion-2M uses a special all-wheel drive 4x4 off-road chassis, which is designed for a use in all type of roads. The vehicle can negotiate a slope of 45°. The Skorpion-2M is motorized with an Andoria 0501 ADCR diesel engine coupled to a 5 speed mechanic gearbox.

On spare wheel is fitted at the rear of the vehicle. The Skorpion-2M is also equipped with ABS system.
