The
first 10 Pantsir/Pantsyr S1 (SA-22 Greyhound) anti-aircraft
surface-to-air missile systems entered service with the
Russian Air Force, a Defense Ministry spokesman said on
18 March 2010.
The Tula-based KBP Instrument Design Bureau has delivered
the first consignment of the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft artillery
weapon system to the Russian Air Force. This new one-of-a-kind
weapon is capable of striking any and all attack aircraft
in automatic mode. Pantsir-S is designed to defend military
installations and primarily such anti-aircraft systems as
the S-400. The developers of the Pantsir-S claim that for
the first time in the history of armaments, missile launching
systems and antiaircraft guns are combined in one unit.
