Description

The Metis-M1 is a Russian-make ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile) system. "9K115-2" is the Russian designation of the missile system. This missile system is designed and manufactured by the Russian Defense Company KBP Instrument Design Bureau. The Metis-M1 ATGM system is designed to engage modem tanks fitted with both add-on and built-in ERA armour, weapons in firing positions, dugouts, light armored vehicles, launcher vehicles, manpower, etc. Small dimensions and weight of METIS-M1 components allows to shape small-size packs that can be carried by a crew of three.

Variants:

- Metis (AT-7 Saxhorn): First generation of Metis family anti-tank missile with a range from 40 to 1,000m
- Metis-M (AT-13 Saxhorn-2): Modernized version of Metis (AT-7 Saxhorn) with a rnage from 8 to 1,500 m

Technical Data

Launcher unit

The Metis-M1 system uses four major components consisting of the tripod with firing unit 9K115-2, the missile container, the missile 9M131M or 9M131FM and the thermal imaging sight 1PN86-VI. The whole system can be carried by three man including the weapons and an ammunition load of five missiles. One crew member carries a pack with a missile-loaded launcher and two other crew members each carry a pack with two missiles. The Metis-M ATGM system has a semi-automatic missile guidance, with commands transmitted over a wire link.

Missile

The Metis-1M can fire two types of missile, the 9M131M with tandem shaped-charge warhead able to estroy armour including explosive reactive armour (ERA) and the 9M131FM with air-fuel explosive warhead capable of blast and incendiary effects comparable with large-aclibre artillery projectiles. The firing tests have demonstrated that the 9M131M and 9M131FM missiles, developed by the KBP Instrument Design Bureau, SUE fired from the Metis-M1 ATGM provide high level of engagement of targets differing in sizes, vulnerability and mobility. Among the Metis-M1 's benefits are small flight time of the 9M131M and 9MI3IFM missiles and high operational security. which practically gives no chance to the potential targets to apply optical jamming and disrupt the mission.

Combat use

The Metis-M1 serve the basis for organizing fire support teams (three and more launchers) intended to engage the most dangerous targets. Such teams can be part of the infantry, mountain and airmobile divisions. independent infantry mountain and armored brigade, as well as of an independent assault light-armed infantry brigade, an independent amphibious brigade and of a special-purpose regiment.
