1. What is the impact of the RAE exhibition on the development of the Sverdlovsk Region? What economic impact does the region expect from RAE in Nizhny Tagil?

The exhibition of arms in Nizhny Tagil is certainly one of Russian brands. First of all, RAE makes the Sverdlovsk Region internationally famous, and thus, this strategically important region becomes more recognizable and familiar to the world community. This means that in the future new investments and tourists may be attracted; industrial tourism is developing rapidly today. The exhibition is attended by more than 65 foreign delegations. It is very important for us to increase the number of foreign partners participating in the exhibition every year despite the difficult political situation.

Thus, not only holding the arms exhibition, but also hosting other exhibitions is one of our priorities, as it is important for the region's economic development.

The experience of Russia and other countries all over the world shows that one ruble invested in holding exhibitions can attract 3 to 4 rubbles to a wide range of related industries. Suffice it to say that during RAE, Nizhny Tagil and Yekaterinburg will be visited by hundreds of guests including visitors from abroad. Besides this, the sources of income include transport, souvenirs and the entire leisure infrastructure.

And, of course, exhibitions give us the opportunity to advertise our enterprises; incidentally, they also make competitive civil purpose products.

As for changes in the global political situation, even if it influences the countries whose delegations come to the Middle Urals, it is most unlikely to have an impact on military and technical cooperation with our foreign partners. The high performance, product quality and the developments of our defence industry enterprises, which are often totally unique, have raised no doubts all over the world. This is why the machinery made by defense industry enterprises of the Sverdlovsk Region, among others, will always be sought after abroad.

2. How would you assess the military and technical cooperation of the Sverdlovsk Region with other countries? Could you please give examples of joint projects in this field which have already been implemented?

Modern defence industry enterprises of the Sverdlovsk Region comprise 40 industry enterprises and R&D organizations. These include 27 large and medium-sized companies, 13 R&D institutions and design and engineering enterprises related to the defence industry. In 2014, defence industry enterprises of the region increased the volume of products made. In 2014, the enterprises manufactured products worth a total of over 200 billion rubbles.

Most enterprises form part of vertically integrated companies, such as the Rostec Corporation, JSC "Research and production corporation "UralVagonZavod", the State Corporation Rosatom, the “Almaz-Antey” Concern, the Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos), and Tactical Missiles Corporation.

The Sverdlovsk Region actively cooperates with several countries in themilitary industry, including all CIS countries, Saudi Arabia, Latin America, the People's Republic of China, the Republic of India and others.

At Russia Arms Expo 2015 a full range of Russian-made military equipment and combat vehicle was presented.

3. How does the exhibition affect the development of business with foreign parties?

The exhibition, which was initially created as a regional project, has gained international status and influence with the support of the Russian government and has been recognized by the leading weapons manufacturers. This demonstrates the success and demand for our exhibition, its effectiveness and credibility. These exhibitions are one of the most effective tools for establishing new business contacts between our manufacturers, companies from other regions and countries, and development institutions. They are also useful for finding new clients. The exhibition in Tagil is attracting more and more interest. We are interesting in the eyes of the world community, and we have something impressive to show. The figures also suggest that the international situation has had little effect on the current exhibition: delegations from 65 foreign countries were in attendance.

4. What are the latest scientific and technical developments of the Sverdlovsk region in the military industrial complex?

The Sverdlovsk region is one of the key Russian regions for creating modern scientific and technology parks, developing, producing and selling high-tech industrial products and developing advanced research and technologies.

I would like to point out that for the Sverdlovsk region, where the level of industrial production is four times higher than the Russian average, the development of defence enterprises and investment in the military industrial complex are of particular importance. According to the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, we must create and upgrade 426,000 highly productive jobs, most of which are in the defence sector.

The defence industry complex is, without a doubt, the driving force behind many other industries.
Our recent developments include a new generation "Armata" tank and a “Coalition” self-propelled artillery platform. New component materials were presented at the exhibition, and VSMPO-AVISMA presented a new titanium alloy for the needs of the military industrial complex.

Almost every defence enterprise carries a variety of industries, including those of the civil sector — engineering, municipal equipment, medical equipment, and information technology.
Of course, the manufacturing of civilian products by enterprises of the militaryindustrial complex themselves is an important issue. And I must say that the proportion of "peaceful" production has grown substantially over the last decade.

Here are some examples: Uralvagonzavod offers high-tech rail cars and municipal equipment, Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant offers the latest medical equipment among its other products: artificial kidney, mechanisms for caring for premature babies.

5. How do you see the future of the RAE? Which foreign participants do you expect to see at the next RAE exhibition?

Any exhibition serves as advertising for the region, as well as a platform for negotiations at various levels. Over 60 delegations from different countries arrived in Nizhny Tagil not only to see the fighting power of the Russian armed forces, but also to negotiate mutually beneficial cooperation. This is the unique feature of the Staratel facility. Here you can not only negotiate or see a military product, but also watch it in action. Exhibitions are also an opportunity for agreements to be signed. Therefore, we believe that RAE leads to an increase of sales for defence industry companies working in the Sverdlovsk region. In the future, we expect even more Russian and foreign participants, and, consequently, more contracts and agreements.

We are open to dialogue and cooperation with other countries in the sphere of the military industrial complex.
