Description
The PSRA Pilica is a Very SHOrt-Range Air Defense system (VSHORAD) developed by a consortium of Polish Defense Companies including CRW Telesystem-Mesko, Jelcz, PCO, PIT-RADWAR, Prexer, and WZL under the lead of the Company Zaklady Mechaniczne Tarnow (ZMT). The PSRA Pilica battery includes six ZUR-23-2SP armed with a twin-barreled 23mm automatic cannon and GROM/PIORUN MANPADS (MAN-Portable Air Defence Systems) surface-to-air missile. The Company ZMT as leader for the project, was responsible to complete the procurement contract and to conduct a critical review of the development project. The system was developed to respond to a request from the Polish Armed Forces. In the 2014 Polish plan for military acquisition program, the procurement of the system was included in the category of objectives considered important to national security, and the conceptual phase was concluded in April of 2015. In December 2016, the Polish Minister of Defense an $180 million contract for the delivery of six batteries of the PSRA Pilica for the Polish Armed Forces. The PSRA Pilica systems will entered in service in 2017 with deliveries to be completed by 2020. However, in 2015 when the Armed Forces Technical Modernization Plan was announced, deliveries were scheduled to be completed by 2018.

Armament
The main weapon system of the PSRA Pilica consists of the ZUR-23-2SP which is based on the Soviet-made ZU-23-2. The armament of the ZUR-23-2SP includes a twin-barreled 23mm 2A14 automatic cannon and two two Grom or Piorun MANPADS (MAN-Portable Air Defence Systems).
Combat use
The PSRA Pilica is mobile artillery weapon system using short-range missile and automatic cannons to protect airports, military bases and defense industry facilities. This artillery system is able to destroy air targets flying at low and medium altitude. The compact size and low weight allow easy long-distance transportation using different types of transport vehicles or aircraft. The PSRA Pilica requires one soldier to support it in "on-call" and two soldiers in "battle alarm" status (one from the on-call shift and the other from the vigilant shift). With the missile the PSRA Pilica has a maximum firing range of 5,500 m while with the 23 mm automatic cannons a firing range from 1,000 to 2,000 m. A single Pilica battery is capable of defending a 350 sq km area from any direction. The six ZUR-23-2SP artillery weapon systems are connected to a command vehicle via optical fiber cable or wireless data link at a distance of up to 5 km. Each ZUR-23-2SP can be operated in autonomous mode with individual external operator terminal.
Command and control vehicles
A standard PSRA Pilica short-range air defense battery includes six ZUR-23-2SP Jodek-SP missile/23mm automatic cannon artillery systems, a command vehicle, six towing trucks (one for each ZUR-23-2SP artillery weapon system), two ammunition trucks, and two transport trucks (based on military truck Jelcz 442.32), a Sola mobile radar station, a visual observation post as well as wired and wireless communication links.
