Russian army units will get Samarkand electronic suppression systems


The Russian Defense Ministry plans to install 15 sets of the Samarkand electronic suppression systems and connect them to its data transmission system, a document published at the ministry’s state procurement website said. "A set of works to extend the prescribed deadlines of operation and current repairs, installation and adaptation of EW means in accordance with a list approved by the Russian Defense Ministry. The components of the Samarkand electronic suppression system should be installed and connected to the Russian Defense Ministry’s data transmission system," the document said.

The Russian Defense Ministry is planning to deploy 16 sets of three types of electronic suppression systems (Samarkand Su-PRD-K2, Samarkand PU-PRD-D and Samarkand-U) at 13 military units stationed in the Kaliningrad and Murmansk regions and in other parts of northwestern Russia, as well as in the Primorye region.

The contract’s execution date is before November 10, 2019. Its maximum cost is 61 million rubles. The payment will be made in two equal parts in 2018 and 2019. Previous reports said that the Samarkand electronic suppression systems had been in service with the Northern Fleet since 2017. According to open sources, the Samarkand electronic suppression system is designed to assess the electromagnetic situation; search for, detect and quickly analyze the types of radiation. The system is also capable of locating radiation sources along with similar stationary and mobile systems of technical control and radio-technical reconnaissance.
