Greece and Israel have jointly carried out in mid-September an operational exercise that involved helicopters in conjunction with fighter aircraft. The Hellenic Army Aviation has deployed for the first time outside its borders since WW2, six Boeing AH-64A+/D Longbow Apache attack and Boeing CH-47D heavy helicopters.

The «Blue and White Glory» exercise took place in the Negev desert area. On its behalf, the Israeli Air Force took part with two Squadrons of fighter aircraft and one Squadron of attack and utility helicopters. The first sorties were to familiarize the Greek pilots with the environment. The following days the crews were involved in complex combined force scenarios. They carried out attack missions, day and night, and combat search and rescue of downed pilots.

Israel and Greece have further enhanced and accelerated their cooperation during the last five years. This cooperation includes Cyprus and should not be seen separately from the underwater gas fields found in the area, as well as the unstable security environment.
