Thai Marines continue to test local-made Phantom 380-X1 MRAP


The Royal Thai Marine Corps continues to test prototype of local-made Phantom 380-X1 4x4 MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle manufactured by the Thai Company Panus Assembly. The vehicle has been designed to be used for counter-terrorist operations.

Local-made Phantom 380-X1 4x4 MRAP vehicle is tested by the Royal Thai Marines.


Currently, two vehicles Phantom 380X-1 are in service with the Royal Thai Marine Corps deployed in the country’s troubled southern border region.

In 2014, The Royal Thai Marine Corps (RTMC) has conducted a three-month trials of the new 4x4 MRAP vehicle Phantom 380-X in southern Thailand. The vehicle was first seen during the Thai-US joint exercise Cobra Gold 2014.
The Phantom 380-X1 is the latest version of the vehicle, it features a v-shaped hull to increase vehicle and crew survivability by deflecting an upward directed blast from a landmine or Improvised Explosive Device(IED) away from the vehicle.

The Phantom 380-X1 can accommodate 11 military personnel including driver and commander. In each side of the hull are six circular firing ports integrated in three bulletproof windows. The vehicle offers protection Level 4B STANAG 4569.

The Phantom 380X-1 has a weight of 19,000 kg. The vehicle is motorized with a Cummins six cylinders Diesel engine developing 380 hp. coupled to a 6 speeds Allison automatic transmission. It can run at a maximum road speed of 110 km/h.
