Lithuania shows interest to purchase 200 US L-ATV MRAP vehicles


According a statement released on Ministry of National Defense of Lithuania website, on November 7, 2017, Raimundas Karoblis the Defense Minister of Lithuania has announced during a meeting in Helsinki (Finland) with the U.S. Secretary of Defense of the United States James Mattis, the interest of Lithuania to purchase L-ATV manufactured by the American Company Oshkosh Defense.

“At the Defence Resource Council session held in the end of last we week we recognized the L-ATV as the best efficiency-price ratio and decided to open negotiations on procurement of these armoured all-terrain vehicles,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis commented on the MoD Defence Resource Council.

The American-made L-ATV (Light All-Terrain Vehicle) will supplement and update the fleet of wheeled combat vehicles in use with the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Lithuania plans to purchase a total o 200 L-ATV vehicles.

The L-ATV was unveiled in 2011 by the American Company Oshkosh Defense to provide a new light combat vehicle offering high level of mobility and protection to operate effectively in remote, rugged and hostile terrains.

The L-ATV is equipped with an advanced crew protection system which offers a protection level similar to that of Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles.

The Oshkosh L-ATV can be fitted with a variety of remote-controlled weapon stations or ring mount machine gun. The L-ATV's Oshkosh roof mounted turret is capable of mounting either an M240 machine gun, a Mk 19 grenade launcher or, a BGM-71 TOW Anti-tank guided missile, all of which can be operated either from the turret or remotely inside the cabin.
