Lithuanians to be trained by Germans in the PzH2000 operation
Lithuanian military personnel have begun training in the KMW PzH2000 self-propelled howitzer. A team of soldiers from the Iron Wolf Mechanized Infantry Brigade has already travelled to Germany, where it will be trained by their German colleagues in Bundeswehr, in the use and employment of the new system, as per the contract.

On 25 November the first eight specialists who will be trained in driving the SPH arrived in Germany where they will stay over a month. More groups of personnel will follow to be trained in the rest of the positions require to man and operate the PzH2000. This initial group of specialists will become the basis for the establishment of a training system within the Lithuanian Army, which will further train more crews.

The Lithuanian Army had decided in September 2015 to procure 21 PzH2000 155mm self-propelled howitzers from the German Army. Of the total number, 16 will be used to equip the “General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion” of the Iron Wolf Brigade, while two will serve as training platforms and the remaining three will be used for spare parts. Along with the SPHs the Lithuanians will receive 26 M577 V2 command vehicles and six BPZ2 recovery vehicles. All of the platforms will be received between 2016 and 2019.
