New Russian-made Armata main battle tank of Uralvagonzavod will be in production for 2016.
Russia will launch the production of its new main battle tank Armata in 2016, announced Thursday, November 21, 2013, in Moscow Vyacheslav Khalitov, deputy general manager of the research and production group of Uralvagonzavod in Nizhny Tagil.

"We'll go to the next stage of design work and the final tests will be completed in 2015. Serial production will start by 2016," said M.Khalitov during a press conference in Moscow.

According to him, Uralvagonzavod manufactures three prototypes based on the Armata chassis and hull. The company has decided to launch mass production of tanks Armata before the end of the design and trial tests.

Uralvagonzavod is also involved to another contract for modernization of main battle tanks T-72 to the standard T-72B/B1 for the Russian army.

"We have a good three-year contract. Our factory has now work for long time in the field for production of main battle tanks. We thank the Russian Ministry of Defence who has opted for long-term contracts," noted Mr. Khalitov.
