"A Russian Aerospace Force air defense large unit stationed in the Moscow Region will have received a regimental set of S-400 Triumph AD missile systems in 2016, with three more regiments-size sets to be fielded with AD units of other military districts this year," the press office said in its press release.
"At present, the Aerospace Force has four S-400 Triumph surface-to-air missile regiments providing AD coverage to Moscow and the Central Industrial Area," the Defense Ministry reminded in its news release. "In the future, the S-400 is to make up the backbone of the Aerospace Force’s air defense regiments, which primary mission is the defense of the top national authorities, military headquarters, industrial and power generation facilities, military units and lines of communication from air attacks." The S-400 Triumph entered the inventory of the Russian Armed Forces in 2007. As of late 2015, 11 regiments had converted to the type, with the number to increase to 16 by late 2016. Reportedly, Russia activated two separate S-400 Triumph missile regiments in the Arctic in 2015. In addition, an S-400 Triumph system was deployed to Khmeimim air base in Syria. The S-400 Triumph is a Russian-made long/medium-range AD missile system designed to eliminate all current and in-development aerospace threats.
