US Army awards contracts to integrate 30mm cannons on Stryker vehicles

The U.S. Army has awarded integration contracts to five companies under the Stryker Medium Caliber Weapons System (MCWS) lethality program. The contracts call for developing integration designs for outfitting a 30mm XM813 gun onto a wheeled Stryker vehicle.

The contracts, valued at no more than $150,000 each, went to General Dynamics Land Systems, Kollsman Inc., Leonardo DRS, Raytheon and Pratt & Miller Engineering and Fabrication Inc.

After outfitting a number if Strykers with 30mm cannons, the service decided it would expand the lethality upgrade to half of its six brigades of Double V-Hull A1 Strykers. The competitors are tasked with presenting a production-representative vehicle using government-furnished equipment. A competition for a production contract will follow, with a draft request for proposals expected in fall 2019.

The lethality upgrade program currently covers three brigade sets, consisting of 83 vehicles per brigade, but the program could be expanded in the future.
