Russian unmanned aerial vehicle UAV battalion to be deployed in Tajikistan.
The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) battalion will appear in the 201st Russian military base deployed in Tajikistan by the end of the year, Commander of the Central MD Colonel-General Vladimir Zarudnitsky said on Thursday, May 25, 2017.

"The UAV battalion will be formed at the 201st military base stationed on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan before the end of 2017," said the commander.

According to Zarudnitsky, the battalion will receive the recent versions of the Orlan and Eleron UAV systems.

"The UAV unit will provide the use of significant UAV forces within a single information system, improve the effectiveness of motorized infantry, artillery and air units," the colonel-general said without specifying the number of unmanned aerial vehicles.

The 201st military base is Russia's largest military facility deployed beyond its borders. It is stationed in the cities of Dushanbe and Kurgan-Tube. According to the agreement signed in October 2012, the formation will remain in Tajikistan until 2042.
