The new motorized division will have the latest armaments, armored hardware, vehicles and special equipment according to a source from the Southern military district.

"According to the orders of the chief of staff of the General Headquarters and commander of the Southern military district, a new "full-fledged" motorized infantry division will be set up in the district by the end of the year. Three military townships will be built for it in Rostov region," the source said.

"The division will be close to 10 thousand men strong. Its headquarters will be located in the area of Rostov-on-Don. The formation will have the latest armaments, armored hardware, vehicles and special equipment," the source added.

In 2016 the first infrastructure for the division - headquarters, barracks, etc. - is to be built. The rest will be erected in 2017. To accelerate construction it is planned to use rapid-assembly modules which have already been used in Omsk, Abakan, Kyzyl and other cities. "Preliminary cost of construction for units and formations of the new motorized infantry division are estimated at not less than 5 billion rubles," the source said.

In early 2016 Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said three new divisions will be set up at the western direction.
