"R&D works have begun to develop an Arctic version of the Tor small-range air defense missile system," the press office said in a press release obtained by TASS.

According to the press office, state trials of the S-350 Vityaz medium-range air defense missile system are currently under way.

This year, the Russian Defense Ministry will receive a battalion set of advanced Buk-M3 (SA-17 Grizzly) medium-range air defense missile systems, the press office added.

The Tor-M2 is a new-generation short-range air defense missile system of the Tor family. The Tor-M2 system is designed to defend key military and governmental facilities from attacks delivered by aircraft, helicopters, cruise and guided missiles, glide and guided air bombs and unmanned aerial vehicles 24 hours a day and in complex weather and jamming conditions.

The Tor-M2 system can detect more than 40 targets simultaneously, determine their danger level, track and fire four targets simultaneously with four missiles launched one by one.

Surface-to-air missiles have been specifically developed to intercept small-size intensively-maneuvering targets efficiently to ensure considerable superiority over their closest foreign-made analogs.
