Iran unveils the production of a new drone UAV called Shaparak (Butterfly)
 

Iranian experts managed to produce a new type of drone which is capable of carrying out military and border patrol missions. Reza Danandeh Hakamabad, the aeronautics engineer in charge of the project, said on Friday, March 16, 2012, that the new remote-controlled aircraft, called Shaparak (Butterfly), has a maximum operational radius of 50 kilometers , and a maximum flight ceiling of 4,572 meters.

India boosts its defence budget of 17 percent for the coming year
 

India on Friday, March 16, 2012 boosted military spending by 17 per cent to $40 billion for the coming year as it seeks to counter China’s rapid military build-up and its traditional rival Pakistan. The government, engaged in a massive programme to upgrade the country’s ageing military hardware, increased defence spending to 1.93 trillion rupees ($40 billion) for the financial year to March 31, 2013.

Military and security equipment manufacturer Mekahog of South Africa has proposed setting up a facility to build the Springbuck series of armoured personnel carriers in Nigeria. Nigeria’s Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade commended Mekahog’s management for offering to establish an armoured personnel carrier (APC) production facility in Nigeria.

Joint live-fire drill for United States and South Korean army with artillery howitzer M109A6 and K-55
 

South Korea and the United States on Thursday staged a joint live-fire drill in Pocheon, northeast of Seoul, as part of the annual Foal Eagle military exercise. Some 100 South Korean and 200 U.S. soldiers took part in the two-hour drill that involved K-55 self-propelled howitzers and M- 109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzers.
