France
hopes to sell 40 second hands main battle tanks Leclerc
in Qatar. In February, four officers of the Qatari Army
were in France to test the Leclerc
tank at the military training area Canjuers (France). During
the demonstration, they tested the tank with real firing
on the move, one of the strong capacities of the French

In
Qatar, Leclerc
tank is not alone with a strong competition. The Germans
recently sent there their last model of Leopard
2A7. Americans, Russians, Ukrainians, South-Koreans
are on the way to propose their tank.
Qatar wishes to modernize its Army, of the size of a brigade.
The Qatar is equipped with old main battle tank AMX-30
and armoured infantry fighting vehicle AMX-10P.
For the replacement of the AMX-10P,
Qataris were also received a proposal with the French VBCI.
On the 406 Leclerc
tanks delivered to the French Army, around fifty are today
available to be sold in second hands. They are the first
built version now stored, even if some of them are use for
spare parts for the maintenance of the latest models.
These
tanks could be upgraded and modernized according to the
wishes of the customer.
The
Leclerc tank had only one foreign customer,
the United Arab Emirates bought 400 Leclerc
tanks in 1995.
