The Stryker is a family of 8x8 armored fighting vehicles derived from the Canadian LAV III. Stryker vehicles are produced by General Dynamics Land Systems for the United States Army. It has a 4-wheel drive (8×4) and can be switched to an all-wheel drive (8×8). The first Stryker vehicles entered in service with the U.S. Army in November 2003

In July 2011, 450 Double V-Hull (DVH) variants of the Stryker vehicle were ordered; the total was increased to 742 a few months later and then to 760 in 2012. DVH Strykers include a new hull configuration, increased armor, upgraded suspension and braking systems, wider tires, blast-attenuating seats, and a height management system.

The Stryker A1, also known as the Double-V Hull (DVH) Engineering Change Proposal 1 configuration, provides unprecedented survivability against mines and improvised explosive devices. In addition to the combat-proven DVH survivability, the Stryker A1 also features a 450-horsepower engine, 60,000-pound suspension, 910-amp alternator, and in-vehicle digital network.

The Stryker A1 eight-wheeled vehicle is built to vastly increase power, survivability and mobility while providing extra storage and seating for nine Soldiers, plus a 3-Soldier crew. The Stryker fleet is considered the backbone of the Army, with nearly 4,700 vehicles fielded.

The U.S. Army continues to modernize its Stryker fleet of armored vehicles through the introduction of the 30mm, up-gunned Infantry Carrier Vehicle – Dragoon (ICVD), and the Double-V Hull A1 platform.
