"New Msta-S self-propelled howitzers have arrived for the Central Military District under the state defense procurement program. The self-propelled howitzers were delivered to an artillery large unit based in the Kemerovo Region [in southwestern Siberia]. Its rearmament with advanced weapons is planned to be completed before the end of July," Roshchupkin said.

"The crews had undergone conversion training at a special training center in advance," he added.

According to him, the batch comprises several dozen self-propelled howitzers.

The 152mm 2S19M2 Msta-S self-propelled howitzer was developed by the Uraltransmash Company in Yekaterinburg in the Urals. It can fire munitions of various types at a rate of more than eight rounds per minute. The howitzer has a range of 29 kilometers (18 miles). Its chassis was developed on the basis of units of the T-72 and T-80 tanks.
