The fully integrated modified version of India's Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun Mark II would go for final trials in the first week of August in Rajasthan. Though trials of the updated version are presently on in Rajasthan, the fully integrated tanks would be sent for final trials by the Indian Army by August.

China and Switzerland to discuss military exchanges and cooperation
 

Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan met with Swiss President Ueli Maurer on Thursday to discuss improving cooperation between the two countries' militaries. Chang, also a state councilor, said that with China and Switzerland maintaining high-level military contacts, institutionalized exchanges and specific cooperation between the two militaries have developed smoothly.

President Barack Obama is considering using military force in Syria, and the Pentagon has prepared various scenarios for possible United States intervention. Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the Obama administration is deliberating whether or not it should use the brute of the US military in Syria during a Thursday morning Senate hearing.

Cuba has said a North Korean cargo ship seized in Panama was loaded at one of its ports with 240 tons of "obsolete defensive weaponry". The Cuban foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, that the Soviet-era weapons were being sent to North Korea for repair and included two anti-aircraft batteries, nine disassembled rockets, and two MiG-21 aircraft.

Australian army starts biennal military training exercise Talisman Saber 2013
 

Exercise Talisman Saber 2013 has commenced, with more than 28,000 soldiers, sailors, air men and women taking to the sea, land and sky in northern Australia. Talisman Saber is a biennial training activity jointly sponsored by the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Joint Operations Command and the US Pacific Command to train the United States 7th Fleet and Australian Deployable Joint Headquarters staffs as a designated Combined Task Force.

A total of 160,000 servicemen, 1,000 tanks, 130 planes and 70 ships are taking part in Russia’s biggest military drill since Soviet times. The war games will continue in the country’s Far East until July 20. The maneuvers are the latest in series of surprise military checks which performed by Russia, in an effort to reveal and oust flaws in the country’s defense program.
