United States donate 24 MRAP Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles to Nigerian Army.
United States donate, Thursday, January 7, 2016, 24 mine-resistant and armor-protected vehicles to the Nigerian Army. The vehicles, which are valued at $11m, would be handed over to the military authorities at the Nigerian Army, 9th Brigade Parade Ground, Ikeja Army Cantonment in Lagos.

A statement sent to DAILY POST, by the Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate General Lagos, said: “The US is pleased to donate 24 Mine-Resistant, Armor-Protected (MRAP) vehicles valued at $11m to Nigeria’s military authorities.

“The equipment donation represents part of the continuing US commitment to Nigeria and its neighbours to counter Boko Haram’s senseless acts of terror and promote regional security.”
The vehicles are expected to be deployed to troubled areas later this month. Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) is an American term for vehicles that are designed specifically to withstand improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and ambushes. Armored vehicles designed specifically to counter the land mine threats.

In September 2014, Nigerian army acquires five Chinese-made MRAPs called BigFoot. This vehicle named CS/VP3 in China, is an APC armoured personnel carrier in the category of MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle) vehicle designed and manufactured by the Chinese Company Poly Technologies.

The CS/VP3 is based on a V-shaped hull and all-welded steel armour that provides a ballistic protection against firing of small arms 7.62x51mm caliber and 7.62x51mm with add-on armour. Land mine protection is provided against 8kg TNT all-around the hull and 16kg of TNT under each wheels.
