Azerbaijan increased its defense production in 2013 by 3.7% compared with 2012.
Official reports say, Azerbaijan increased its defense production in 2013 by 3.7 percent compared with 2012. Defense Industry Minister Yaver Jamalov said, the volume of defense equipment produced in Azerbaijan in 2013 has increased significantly.

He went on adding that, the number of defense equipment produced last year exceeded 900 units.

Jamalov also noted that last year a 12-tube 107-millimeter multiple rocket launcher system, transparent magazine cases for patrons, 120-millimeter mines were produced.

Jamalov went on to say that armored personnel carriers such as Combat Reconnaissance Patrol Vehicle-2 and Armored Transport Vehicle-70 were tested and made operational.

The samples of aerial bombs were prepared and tested and works one them are underway.

The combat modules with 14.5-millimeter machine guns were installed on the Matador and Marauder armored vehicles. Also, Orbiter-2M unmanned aircrafts were tested and made operational.

Jamalov also said Azerbaijan's defense industry products were put on display at various exhibitions and attracted significant attention. In 2009, Azerbaijan put on display only 27 products at its first exhibition. Now the number has reached to 130 units in Turkey exhibition.

Gurza patrol vehicles, Yalguzag sniper rifles, attack machine gun of HP-7.62 type were put on display at the IDEF-2013 international exhibition held in Istanbul in May 2013 for the first time.

"The Defense Industry Ministry closely cooperates with more than 60 companies from various countries on the aviation, navigation, as well as instrument-making field," Jamalov said.

Along with the production of defense products, the ministry's enterprises carry out work on mastering the production of products civilian purpose. These are monitoring and control systems for oil and gas sector, caterpillars for tractors, DVB-T-decoders, spare parts for ships, batteries, hunting weapons, timer systems for traffic lights and others.

Azerbaijan is strengthening its military power and defense capabilities on a yearly basis. The establishment of the Ministry of Defense Industry has been instrumental in strengthening the defense potential of the country.

The defense products output in Azerbaijan surged by more than eight-fold during 2005-2013. The country's defense industry ministry has started the mass production of a variety of munitions in recent years.

The Defense Ministry has created a new post-patrol Gurza machine, equipped with two 7.62 mm caliber weapons, one 12.7 mm caliber machine gun, a new 7.62 x 51mm caliber sniper rifle that meets NATO standards, and a machine gun designed for use in special military operations.

Furthermore, a new reconnaissance vehicle has been produced. This machine is equipped with a 23 mm caliber canon, a 7.62 mm caliber twin machine gun mount, an AQ-17 grenade launcher, and other military equipment.

Machine guns, mortar launchers, Zafar-K pistols, AK-74M submachine guns, battle and signal bullets, hand grenades, anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, firearms, and spare parts for armored vehicles are among the goods produced and delivered to the customers.

Five production sites were put into operation in 2013 as well.

Also, Azerbaijan has prepared a long-term plan for its defense industry in 2014. The country plans to start manufacturing three kinds of optical systems, including thermal sights, in 2014.

In September 2014, Azerbaijan will host the ADEX-2014 International Defense Industry Exhibition which will be the first event of its kind in the region.
