The Iraqi National Security Committee includes the Defense, Interior, Foreign, Justice and Finance. Armed Forces and Para-military forces are under the control of the Minister of Defense are being collectively referred to as the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF). The total active manpower is around 206,000 personnel, plus 25,000 civil employees. There is also a Para-military force with 238,000 police officers, 27,000 members of Iraqi National Police, and 28,000 personnel from the Border Protection Department.
The Land Forces of the Iraqi Army are composed with around 202,000 soldiers with the following structure:
- 13 divisions, each with four line brigades, an engineering regiment, and a support regiment. In 2009, a field artillery regiment will be added to each division, with an artillery battalion added to each brigade
- 105 combat battalions.
