EUROSATORY Exhibition History
The largest world gathering of experts in equipment, services and high technologies in the Defence sector, of military and political decisionmakers, of Defence international Press – a site where to find the latest trends in Defence and Security (Homeland Defence and UAVs/UGVs) – a shop window where over 1,500 equipments are shown in a static and dynamic setting – a meeting point – many cooperation contracts announced – nearly 5,100 ‘One-to-One business Meetings’ which enabled its reputation to be strengthened and confirmed.

The Homeland Defense concept at the heart of Eurosatory which hosted the first international conference on this theme - bringing together 200 attendies, institutional and industrial decisionmakers - for discussions on border control, civil-military cooperation in emergency situations and defence against asymetric threats.

A focus on innovations - displayed on the stands of the major industrial groups and small and medium-sized firms specializing in the Defence sector – with technological advancies in the protection and security of combatants by means of equipment for the ‘cyberinfantryman’, embedded electronics, UAVs & UGVs, and the ‘Joint Operational Logistics Area’.

The European Defence Agency and the UE Staff present in the new ‘European Pavilion’ to discuss their objectives and activities with Industry – the ‘Europe Day’ which involved the Directors of the EDA and the EUMS, and figures from the Defence Industry in debate - the French Minister of Defence who emphasized the need for consolidation in the European land Defence Industry in order to complement progress in European Security and Defence Policy.

Before 1960: equipment in use or on test was displayed every year by ‘la Section Technique de l’Armée de Terre’ française (French Army Experimental Unit) in the Satory Military Camp, close to Versailles. One day was allocated to the Army Attachés from Paris.

1967: an exhibition was organised every two years by ‘la Délégation Générale pour l’Armement’ (French Procurement Agency) and brought together some 30 French defence manufacturers for 3 days.

1991: the organization of the exhibition was transferred to the newly-formed GICAT (the French Land Defence Manufacturers Association).

1992: the much acclaimed first ‘European Exhibition for Land Defence Equipment" was held at the Le Bourget Exhibition Centre as Eurosatory ; GICAT’s subsidiary COGES (General Commission for Events and Exhibitions) was created.

1994: the arrival of North-American exhibitors, along with those of the Western European Union (WEU) and the European Free-Trade Area (EFTA) endowed Eurosatory with its International reputation.

1996: with the worldwide extension of the event, Eurosatory grew into the « International Exhibition for Defence Equipment » to which exhibitors came from 5 continents.

2000: Eurosatory became the ‘International Exhibition for Land and Airland Defence ‘

2002: The Exhibition moved to the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre.

June 2008: the 9th session of Eurosatory, an exhibition dedicated to Land and Airland Armaments, became the ‘International Land, Airland and Security Defence Exhibition’ with a specific scheme: ‘Shaping Tomorrow’s Defence’.
