Armament
The TATA Motors MPV 4x4 armoured personnel carrier can be fitted with an one-man open-top turret mounted in the center of the roof. The turret provides 360° view for the gunner's position thanks to small bulletproof glass mounted all-around the turret offering protection from enemy fire. This turret can be armed with a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun or automatic grenade launcher. As all modern combat vehicle, the MPV can be also fitted with a remote weapon station that provides the gunner with the ability to acquire and engage targets while inside a vehicle, protected by its armor.
Design and protection
The layout of the vehicle is standard with the powepack at the front, the crew located in the middle with driver and commander and the troops compartment at the rear. Driver and commander have a door in the side that opens to the front, with a bulletproof window in the upper part. There is a large door in the rear that opens to the right and has a bulletproof window. The V-shaped hull of the MPV is of all-welded steel armour construction that provides a very high degree of protection against anti-tank mines (under the hull 14 kg TNT and under the wheel 21 kg of TNT) as well as small arms fire (Level CEN B6) and shell splinters. The MPV can be upgraded with an armour kit offering protection to CEN B7 Level (Armor-piercing Rifle Protection). A large bulletproof windows is located at the front, four on each sides of the hull and one at the rear of the MPV and these provide the same degree of protection as the steel hull. The center of rear and side windows are fitted with firing port. The MPV can carried a total of 13 military personnel including driver, commander and gunner. The vehicle has a gros vehicle weight of 14,300 kg with a maximum payload of 1,400 kg.
Mobility
The TATA Motors MPV 4x4 armoured personnel carrier is motorized with a Cummins ISBe Turbocharged after-cooled Diesel engine developing 24 hp at 2,500 rpm coupled to an automatic transmission with 6 forward and 1 reverse gears. The MPV can run at a maximum road speed of 80 km/h. The vehicle is based on a 4x4 chassis with front semi-elliptical leaf springs at the front and the rear of the suspension.
Accessories
The TATA Motors MPV 4x4 armoured personnel carrier is fitted with air-conditioning system mounted at the right of the hull and a spare wheel is mounted at the left side. All infantrymen are seated on anti-blast suspended seat with four-point belts which are designed to prevent damage to the crew from the extreme acceleration following an explosion beside or under the vehicle. The MPV is also fitted with run-flat tyres system designed to resist the effects of deflation when punctured and enable the vehicle to continue to be driven at reduced speeds.
